620 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
The first Steps to the Unknown
Location: XO Quarters
Location: USS Intrepid, XO Quarters
Braxton sat on the sofa in his quarters, as he looked out the main window he started to recall his day. Seeing Luna was hard. He had not seen her since their stay in the Polaris. That seems like another life ago. Now she had children and this command. Like before he was still her first officer.
Somethings never changed he thought to himself. He found himself thinking what she must have gone through the past few years. Clearly she moved on and had children. As far as Braxton could tell, the father was out of the picture.
He wondered what kind of man would leave his woman and his children. He knew that he could review the logs, but part of him didn't want to know. Because if he ever came back, to the Intrepid or to Luna, he would have to work with that guy. And it was also none of his business. The coward of a man, wasn't a member of the crew anymore.
"Computer open a channel." Braxton ordered, as he waited for the computer to respond to his request. He started to think about the old days before the USS Polaris. He wondered what happened to that ship?
"Channel open, Commander." The ship computer called out.
"Open a line to the USS Freemont, I want to speak with Lieutenant Commander (Insert Name)." Braxton ordered, as he waited for the computer to open the channel.
"Communications established opening channel now." Called out the computer.
"Well well well, it's been a long time old friend." Braxton said, with a warm smile on his face.
"COMMANDER Haynes, why aren't you the captain yet? Don't tell me you're still chasing after Luna?" Elijah Bennett said with a twisted grin on his face.
Braxton grinned as he said, "Probably the same reason you're not Elijah." He said, and he took a quick breath. "Yes I'm still going after Luna." Braxton pointed out to Elijah.
"It's been over between you guys for years." Elijah said being a little concerned that his friend was reopening Old wounds I should probably be closed.
"I know you're right, and initially I was just coming over here to try to get a 2-year tenure and get my own command track." Braxton suggested to him.
"Then what happened?" Elijah simply asked him.
"Talking with her, but I will man it hurts a little hurt though. She has twins." Braxton pointed out, knowing that maybe it wasn't a good idea that he took his assignment, but he was going to at least see it through until he can get a recommendation to Captain.
"I don't know what you're expecting, she moved on. Maybe you should too." Elijah pointed out to him. "The Polaris was another lifetime ago."
"Maybe you're right, but I swear I feel something more recently with her." Braxton suggested to him. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something between them though, but he also knew there might just be in his head only.
"I think you're playing with fire my friend." Elijah said, are the debated about what to say next to him. Maybe he can get his friend to see you, that this wasn't a good idea.
"Your probably right, but Starfleet wants me here." Braxton suggested to Elijah. His orders came from Starfleet, but he did request the assignment. And clearly Luna wanted him here, because she approved his application.
Elijah knew that was only a partial truth, he knew that Braxton had never gotten over Luna. "Just be careful, and don't get hurt again."
"I will." Braxton said, as the scene starts to fade away. The two of them continue to talk to them.
